October 6, 2010 was the second time I’ve seen Canadian dance-pop band Dragonette live and I think the more I see, the more I love. Lead singer Martina Sorbara has great energy on stage and the music of Dragonette can definitely pack some heat.  They opened for Swedish/American electro-rockers Miike Snow at New York’s Terminal 5 and from the moment they hit the stage, the crowd was treated to a pre-dance party.  Unfortunately, since they were the opening act, they only played a brief 8 songs, but I certainly loved every second of the show.  Martina told the crowd that this was their final gig on their tour and they were so happy to be playing for us.  Equally, the crowd was happy to watch.  A video from this performance will be coming soon, so stay tuned for that!

Moments after Dragonette’s amazing set at the Bowery Ballroom in New York on August 13, 2010, I met the band.  Dan Kurtz, keyboardist for Dragonette came out first to look for a friend.  After a brief chat about the joys of the Panasonic Lumix camera, he invited me backstage to meet singer Martina Sorbara and drummer Joel Stoufer!  How amazing is that?!  And thanks again for the offer Dan, that was really nice of you! All three members were beyond nice and I am extremely grateful to them for being so cool.  Martina thought she came out looking too tan in the first photo we took together, so Dan Kurtz offered to take another with a different backdrop.  I assured Martina that she looked fabulous in both shots, and as you can see from the above photo, I was right!  Thanks again to Dragonette for being totally awesome, both on stage and off!

On August 13, 2010, Canadian electro-pop band Dragonette played a sold out show at New York’s Bowery Ballroom.  The band took the stage around 11:30 PM after sets by Shy Child and The Young Empires (who I absolutely loved).  More on both bands coming soon. Dragonette was really great.  They had a nifty light show for the crowd and lead singer Martina Sorbara danced around the stage and played guitar on some of their more rockin’ numbers.  Their music is a nice mix of electronic and pop/rock and I loved every second of it.  The crowd was loving it too as every song turned into a sing-a-long with most of the crowd throwing their hands in the air.  I met the band after the show and they were all beyond nice.  More on that encounter coming soon.  They played a nice mix of songs from their albums “Galore” and “Fixin to Thrill.”  One of my favorite moments was when Martina told the crowd how she once did guest vocals at a show at the Bowery Ballroom and afterwards drank as much of the band’s vodka as she could get her hands on.  Needless to say, she ended up on the floor puking her guts out as audience members walked by her lifeless body and commenting “great job tonight.”  A video of “We Rule The World” is coming soon, so stay tuned for that as well.  See a few more pictures as well as the set list after the jump.
