The May Day Mural by Shepard Fairey after someone tagged the shit out of it.
On my way home from a show tonight, I walked past Shepard Fairey’s May Day mural to see if Paul Richard’s destruction from yesterday had been removed. The answer to my question was yes. But at least Richard’s “improvement” to the wall was kind of cool and was at least funny. I was disgusted to find that someone (or some people) have tagged the shit out of the wall and it’s really ugly! What is wrong with people. There are a million walls to deface in New York and they go and pick on one of the coolest looking ones. Idiots!
The May Day Mural by Shepard Fairey on Bowery and Houston.
The Shepard Fairey May Day mural on Bowery and Houston in New York has been attacked again! Several days ago, vandals punched holes in this really cool mural and now a sign has been affixed to it. See a closeup of what the sign says after the jump.
It’s been several hours and I am still spinning around about this! I went to check out artist Shepard Fairey’s new mural on Bowery on April 22, 2010 and I had a chance encounter with Mr. Fairey himself! It was a gorgeous sunny spring New York day and all of a sudden, a swarm of black clouds rolled in and it started pouring rain. Shepard Fairey was putting the finishing touches on his May Day mural to celebrate his next art show which will be held at Deitch Projects in May. In the rain, Shepard was cool enough to pose for a picture with me and I am very grateful! I literally stood in the rain for 20 minutes admiring the really cool mural (pictures after the jump) and then he came back and allowed me to take a brief video of him doing some finishing touches on it! Wow! Thanks so much for being so cool! In the off chance you don’t know his work, he designed the world famous “Obama Hope” poster and he is currently starring in “Exit Through The Gift Shop,” next year’s Oscar winner for Best Documentary and one of the best art films of all time! Thanks again Shepard!!!! This picture has already become so infamous, it’s already showed up on one of the coolest blogs of all time, The Worley Gig.
See some pictures of the May Day mural and a couple more of the supercute artist after the jump.
I’d like to thank artist Shepard Fairey for allowing me to tape a short clip of him making his latest mural on the streets of New York. The mural is to celebrate his next exhibition which hits the Big Apple in May, 2010. A photo of me and the artist is coming soon! Stay tuned!
