January 13, 2011 was a fantastic night of rock and roll at New York’s Mercury Lounge. Devin Therriault opened the show with a great 40 minute set and then Mona hit the stage just around 8 pm.  The Nashville based band played an hour long set that featured many soon-to-be classic songs including “Say You Will,” “Cloak and Dagger” and “Lean Into The Fall.”  The band is a huge hit overseas and they are starting to build a die hard fan base stateside.  In fact, before the band posted a single track on their Myspace page, the band received close to 200,000 page views!  They did not disappoint in concert and if you are looking to hear some new music by a band that has tinges of rock and roll, rockabilly and garage rock – but with their own spin and flavor, check out Mona.  You can hear several tracks here.

And if you are in the New York area, you can catch Mona live with another one of my favorite bands, The Rassle at Union Pool in Brooklyn on January 15, 2011.  You can get tickets on Union Pool’s official site for the bargain price of $10! Don’t miss this show!  It’s going to be great!

See the set list and a picture of my encounter with Mona’s lead singer Nick Brown after the jump.
