Michael Fitzpatrick of Fitz and the Tantrums

Only in New York can you start off the day at an exclusive rooftop party, go see a free concert by a great band like Fitz and the Tantrums in Central Park in the afternoon and then hop on a train to New Jersey to see Sade for your evening entertainment – and all in a 12 hour period!  Fitz and the Tantrums are great!  I saw them in January when the weather was much different.  On June 25, 2011 at Central Park’s Summerstage, the indie-pop/neo-soul band performed for a packed house on a gorgeous (though hot and muggy) New York summer day.  In just 6 short months, the band has gained a lot of deserved popularity and it was great seeing the audience singing along to their songs.  Michael Fitzpatrick has a great stage presence that has him dancing around all over the place like a pied piper leading the crowd into reckless abandon.  Singer Noelle Skaggs is great too as her voice is soulful and her dance moves are infectious!   The band is tight and their songs are 4 minute parties.  Their hour long set included hits and fan favorites such as “Breaking the Chains of Love,” “L.O.V.,” “Moneygrabber,” and “Rich Girls.”  You can download an mp3 of a live version of “Don’t Gotta Work It Out” for a limited time on Fitz’ official site.  Get it while it’s hot!
