Happy birthday to Liam Gallagher, formerly of Oasis and currently of Beady Eye.  Liam and his brother Noel have nearly become as famous for their in public spats as they are for their music. I really hope they can find a way to put their arguments behind them and come to a new understanding.  Life is too short, according2g.

Also born today – my Dad, actors Rob Morrow, Larry Hagman and Bill Murray, writers Stephen King and H.G. Wells, singer Leonard Cohen and cartoonist Chuck Jones.  Happy birthday to all!

I am still buzzing from seeing Liam Gallagher of Oasis’ new band Beady Eye.  Making the night better, I saw them perform at Live On Letterman, inside the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York.  Making the night better, Beady Eye performed an hour long set.  Making the night better, we were allowed to take photos and video if we so chose.  Making the night better, I met Liam Gallagher after the set was over.  By this point you probably want to punch me, drunken bar room brawl style.  I think this video, which is in crystal clear quality, will make you put down the guns and throw up the love sign.

Don’t believe everything you read on the internet!  The web is flooded with horror stories about Liam Gallagher from Oasis and now Beady Eye.  Beady Eye made its US TV debut on June 22, 2011 on Live on Letterman and I was fortunate enough to catch all the action.  Naturally, I hoped the night would end as most of my concert experiences end – with me meeting the band.  I was quite nervous about meeting Liam Gallagher because of all the bad stories that are out there.  Also, from personal experience, when a singer I love is mean to me, it scars me for life.  My outlook on life is that I feel you have to at least give it the old college try in precarious situations, so I decided to go for it.  I credit my uncanny sense of good timing and upon exiting the venue after watching a great hour long set by Beady Eye, Liam Gallagher was out back smoking a cigarette!  The moment of truth.  I approached him and said “Hey Liam.  Great set.”  He thanked me and when I asked if I could take a photo with him, he said “sure.”  WOW!  Because I push things to the limit, a few moments after the photo was taken, I asked him to sign a couple of Oasis CD covers for me and he obliged me there as well.  I cannot say that everything on the web about Liam is untrue, but I also would like to have it put out there that he’s not an entirely horrible person like the net might have you believe.  Thanks again Liam so much!  I won’t be forgetting this night any time soon.

Liam Gallagher of Beady Eye

On June 22, 2011, Beady Eye made their US television debut on Late Night with David Letterman.  Several short hours later, Beady Eye played an hour long set for Live On Letterman at the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York.  I was the lucky recipient of free tickets to the taping which was broadcast live on the web.  This was a great experience for me for so many reasons.  First, I’d never been inside the Ed Sullivan Theater,  a place that is overflowing with some of the greatest performances in TV history.  The Doors, Elvis Presley, The Beatles and Prince have all performed inside this historic venue – need I say more?  Also, I never had the opportunity to see Oasis live and I have a previous engagement during Beady Eye’s sold out show at Webster Hall on June 23, 2011, so my chances of ever seeing Liam Gallagher were not looking good.  Live on Letterman changed all that for me!

The Letterman staff were very organized and we were escorted to our seats around 7:30 for the 8 pm taping.  It was cool being on the set while we waited for the show to start.  Seconds before the taping began, an announcement came over the PA system – “feel free to take photos, tweet and text during the show!”  With that great news, Beady Eye hit the stage and played songs such as “Bring The Light,” “Millionaire,” “Beatles and Stones,” “Wigwam,” “Kill For A Dream,” and “The Roller” from their album “Different Gear, Still Speeding.”  Liam looked and sounded great and seemed to be in a great mood.

I was fortunate enough to meet Liam Gallagher after the show, but that experience was so epic, it deserves a separate post, so stay tuned!  Thanks again to Live On Letterman for a fantastic night!
