Ann Rutherford

Ann Rutherford

Sad news out of Hollywood!  Actress Ann Rutherford, one of the last living stars of “Gone With The Wind” has died at age 94.  As you can see above, I met Ann Rutherford on many occasions and both the person and her signature were both extremely lovely.  I would only assume that the good energy she had around her helped her live a long life.  Rest in peace Ann and thank you for always being so kind!

Geoffrey Dicker and Ray Bradbury

Sad news!  The world has lost a legend.  Writer Ray Bradbury has died at age 91.

So many of his works have been influential in my life.  I am very sad.

Some of his highlights include The Martian Chronicles, Fahrenheit 451, Something Wicked this Way Comes, and so many more literary classics.

I met Ray Bradbury on many occasions, including the above photo taken when I was in high school and he was always an extremely nice guy.

RIP Ray!

Dick Clark

Dick Clark

Sad news out of Hollywood. TV icon Dick Clark has died of a heart attack at age 82.  Effective immediately, New Year’s Eve is canceled!  Just kidding.  The icon of the final day of the year was so nice and I was fortunate enough to meet him many times over the years and he was always gracious to fans.  They don’t make them like that anymore, and it’s a pity.  RIP Dick!  And also, thanks for all the great bands I discovered because of American Bandstand.

Heavy D

Heavy D

I’m so saddened to hear about the death of rapper Heavy D (at the young age of 44) today.  I loved his rapping on Janet Jackson’s “Alright,” Michael Jackson’s “Jam,” as well as the theme song for the TV show “In Living Color.”  I was lucky enough to meet him several times and he was extremely cool.  I remember one time in the 90s, my brother and I were walking down the streets of Los Angeles and we saw Heavy D driving down the street.  The light was changing and we waved at him.  He rolled down his window and signed autographs for us!  So cool!  They don’t make ’em like that anymore!  RIP Heavy D!

Remembering Phil Hartman

Phil Hartman

Phil Hartman

Comedian and actor Phil Hartman would be celebrating birthday number 62 today.  Phil Hartman had played so many characters on Saturday Night Live and he was always great in each transformation from playing a caveman to then President Bill Clinton.  I was fortunate enough to meet Phil many times and he was such a nice guy.  He was always polite and seemed genuinely surprised that anyone would want his autograph.  I remember the day I heard that Phil Hartman had been murdered by his wife, who then turned the gun on herself while his two kids were asleep in the house.  I couldn’t believe it.  It seemed so unexpected especially since Phil Hartman’s life was never the subject of tabloid scandals.  He always appeared to be so low key and as I said, from my experiences in meeting him, he was so down to earth and friendly.  So tragic.   His kids are probably fully grown by now and I hope they are doing ok after going through such a traumatic event in their lives.

Also born today: puppeteer Jim Henson, photographer Linda McCartney and writer F. Scott Fitzgerald.
