Let’s kick things off with UK dance duo Disclosure performing “Jaded” at Madison Square Garden on October 25, 2015.

While we are in the dancing mood, check out Canada’s Haute Rock band Young Empires, performing “Sunshine” at Mercury Lounge on October 17, 2015.

Next up, is the newcomer Borns, who has a T. Rex meets MGMT vibe. He covered two classic songs recently, and I present them both to you: Here’s Borns taking on “Bennie and the Jets” by Elton John!

Borns, also covered “Moonage Daydream” by David Bowie!

Finally, a pair of tracks from Blur’s first Madison Square Garden headlining show. Damon Albarn commented that it only took them 25 years to get there, but as you will see, it was worth the wait.

The first track is a Blur rarity, “Country Sad Ballad Man,” which has not been performed live in 20 years!

Last but not least is a song you all know and love – “Song 2!” WHOO HOO!!!!

Please support these bands (and all others on the site) by seeing them in concert and spreading the word!

OMG!  The one and only Nancy Botwin!  Mary-Louise Parker is currently starring in “The Snow Geese” on Broadway.  The play only runs through mid-December 2013, so if you want your chance to see MLP in the flesh, you have to act quickly.  The story, set in post World War II, focuses on a recent widow (played by Mary-Louise Parker) confronting the reality that he recently deceased husband left their wealthy family in massive debt.   The cast is great, and for me, a huge fan of “Weeds,” it was great to watch Mary-Louise Parker on stage for 2 hours.  After the show, she briefly signed autographs and took photos with the show goers and it was a perfect end to a perfect night!  Thanks Mary-Louise!  You can find out more about “The Snow Geese” and get your tickets at this link (which will open in a new window).

The Best Movie at the 51st New York Film Festival: “Her” by Spike Jonze

Joaquin Phoenix

My favorite film at the 51st New York Film Festival was “Her” directed by Spike Jonze.  It appears the festival saved the best for last as the film was screened throughout the day on October 12, 2013 – the final day of the NYFF.  I attended the press screening in the morning which was attended by the film’s director Spike Jonze.  Also joining him for a question and answer session were some of the stars of the film: Joaquin Phoneix, Amy Adams, Rooney Mara and Olivia Wilde.

“Her,” is set in the not so far off in the future Los Angeles and it focuses on the love life of Theodore Twombly (portrayed brilliantly by Joaquin Phoenix).  Theodore lives in a world of technology and he falls in love with an operating system (voiced by Scarlett Johansson).  As expected in a Spike Jonze film, there are funny, touching and very quirky moments.  For music lovers, the film was scored by the ultra-hip Arcade Fire, so you definitely will not want to miss this film.

As you watch this film, you will immediately be sucked into Theodore’s world and you will scarily not find it too far fetched that a person could fall in love with a virtual operating system.  I don’t want to spoil the film because I want you to see it when it gets released, but I can assure you, if you liked “Being John Malkovich,” you will also like “Her.”  Once the screening was over, I had a few nice photo ops and you can see those after the jump.   Thanks to everyone who was nice enough to take photos with me and also for your great performances!
