The Kostabi Show

The Kostabi Show

I wrapped up “Kostabi Week” by attending a taping of “The Kostabi Show” on May 20, 2011.  If you’ll recall, I met artist Mark Kostabi for the first time earlier this week.  I had a really great encounter meeting him.  I was subsequently invited to Kostabi World the next night to watch Kostabi’s band perform an intimate warm up gig for a show at Iridium Jazz Club on May 26, 2011.  It was a night so fantastic, it literally defines the reason I live in New York.  Of course you should quit when you are ahead when it comes to these things, but I think by now, you’ve figured out that I have a very serious addiction – to having fun!  Upon the personal invitation from Mark to attend a taping of his cable TV program, “The Kostabi Show,” there was no way I’d miss it!

Once again, from the second you set foot in Kostabi World, you instantly feel welcome and you immediately go into sensory overload as there are works from Kostabi everywhere!  Towards the back of the very large studio space is the set where “The Kostabi Show” is filmed.  If you’ve never seen it before, the format is simple:  Mark Kostabi is the host and he shows his latest untitled works to 3 panelists.  They each come up with titles for the works and the audience votes on the best title.  The winner gets a cash prize.  In between segments, the audience is treated to a live performance by Kostabi’s band (featuring Mark on piano).  The show wraps up with Mark Kostabi giving away a stack of dollar bills to the audience which are blown into the air by a fan in the shape of a cash register (see green paddle below), a motif that reoccurs in Kostabi’s work.  Whoever can grab that dough gets to take it home with them.

Mila Kunis on the set of "Friends with Benefits"

As I was coming home from an event tonight, I passed the filming of the new movie “Friends With Benefits.”  It is set for release in 2011 and stars Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis (who is best known for her role as Jackie Burkhart on “That 70’s Show.”)  Unfortunately, I was told that Justin Timberlake had already gone home for the day so I can’t show you any pictures of him.  But I can show you a bit of a Hollywood magic tip.  Mila Kunis, gorgeous as hell, but very short, was filming a scene opposite someone much taller than her.  To compensate for the height difference, Mila stood on a wooden crate during the filming of the scene! Hollywood cheats us again.  But I’d never cheat you on According2g, so enjoy this next photo!

Curb Your Enthusiasm In New York!

Curb Your Enthusiasm!

On a nice summer night in New York, I was finishing up dinner when I thought I’d take a walk through Washington Square Park.  When I got there, I ran right into the filming for an upcoming episode of one of my favorite shows, Curb Your Enthusiasm!  I only stuck around for a couple of takes, but in this scene, Larry David (left) is buying drugs from David Canary (middle), who most famously played Adam and Stuart Chandler on the day time soap All My Children!  After the take was over, Larry David retreated back to his trailer, but I had an encounter with David Canary as well as Jeff Garlin, who plays Larry’s best friend and manager on the show – both were super cool.  More on Jeff and David coming soon.  Stay tuned.  Enjoy another picture from an upcoming episode of the 8th season of Curb Your Enthusiasm – in New York!

The Marriage Ref

The Marriage Ref set.

So by now, episodes of Jerry Seinfeld’s latest project The Marriage Ref are already airing on TV, but if you are like me and have no time or interest for TV – you might be asking yourself – what in the world is this show about?  Each week, 3 celebrity panelists look at a particular issue in a married couple’s life and then they vote on who is in the right.  The show has been universally panned by critics, but the saving grace is that because Jerry Seinfeld is who he is, he commands major star power to infuse life into a really dull premise.  I went to a taping of the show on March 15, 2010 and whilst I’ve signed a confidentiality agreement, I cannot talk about what happens on the show. What I will say is that Kirstie Alley, Sheryl Crow and Jimmy Fallon were the guests.  Also, as soon as the show was over, the set producer allowed us to take photos!  That was a nice surprise to an otherwise long evening.

The Robert Pattinson mystery is solved.

I’m sure you’ll all remember last July when I was out and about and saw heart-throb Robert Pattinson filming a movie.  If you don’t recall, maybe this will refresh your memory.  At the time, I had no idea if he was filming the next Twilight movie or what he was doing.  The mystery is solved.  The mystery woman is Emile DeRavin (of Lost).  The mystery movie is Remember Me, which is released on March 12, 2010.  We can all resume our normal lives now that we’ve solved the case.

Remember Me.
