Charlie Fink of Noah and the Whale

On March 21, 2011, the English folk/rock band Noah and the Whale played their first of 2 sold out shows at New York’s Bowery Ballroom.  Opening the show was 22 year old Luke Rathborne, whose sound was a nice mix of Bob Dylan and Lou Reed.  Noah and the Whale have been around since 2006 and the world is finally starting to take notice of the 5 piece band after the success of their latest single “L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N.”  I enjoyed what I heard and don’t let the “folk” label scare you away because Noah and the Whale rocked.  Lead singer Charlie Fink introduced every song to the audience (sometimes with an anecdote) and the crowd was loving what they heard.  Fun fact about Noah and the Whale:  the band takes their name from the movie “The Squid and the Whale” which was directed by Noah Baumbaugh.

Opening for Pink on her Funhouse tour, Manchester Band The Ting Tings played at New York’s Madison Square Garden on October 5, 2009.  While their lyrics tend to be on the silly pop song side, their music definitely got asses out of seats to bump and grind. When they played their UK #1 “That’s Not My Name,” the sold-out arena sang along to every word.

Check out some more pictures of Katie White and Jules DeMartino also known as The Ting Tings plus the set list after the jump.

On September 24, 2009 at Giants Stadium in New Jersey, Muse and U2 played a double bill for a night of exhilarating entertainment.  While Muse is still trying to make it big in the United States, they are massively successful worldwide.  In fact, their latest album “The Resistance,” was just released on September 14, 2009 and has already gone to number one in 16 countries.  I saw people wearing “Who cares about U2, I came to see Muse” T-shirts at the show and when they came on stage, they were electric.  Lead singer Matthew Bellamy plays guitar that a Jimi Hendrix fan would appreciate and sings like a lesser-depressed version of Thom Yorke of Radiohead.
