Robert Schwartzman of Rooney!

It was a trio of awesome music on July 14, 2010 as Black Gold, The Young Veins and Rooney played a sold out show at New York’s Irving Plaza.  Fillmore East. Irving Plaza. For the non-New Yorkers, Irving Plaza has changed its name almost as many times as Prince and like Prince, the venue has resumed its original name- Irving Plaza.  The crowd was filled to the brim with 18 year old girls and I thought my evening would be a disaster, but the evening turned out quite the opposite.  Black Gold and The Young Veins both rocked (and more on each band later – stay tuned).  Rooney has been around for just over 10 years now and while I’ve heard some of their music, I had never seen them live.  Their music reminds me a bit of the Fratellis – nothing groundbreaking – but fun as hell to listen to!  Every song is upbeat and rockin’ and will make you feel good.  They were great live.  The audience sang along and danced to each song with minimal nudging by the band. Lead singer Robert Schwartzman is the brother of actor Jason Schwartzman.  Even though I knew this fact going in, I completely forgot about it until I got home.  Rooney hit the stage around 10 pm and they played a great 90 minute set.  They focused on playing material from their third album “Eureka,” but they still managed to pack in the hits “Blueside,” “I’m Shakin'” and their new single “I Can’t Get Enough.”  I met lead singer Robert Schwartzman after the show and he was extremely nice.  More on that encounter, reviews and images of both opening acts and a video of “I Can’t Get Enough,” are all forthcoming – so stick around.  I’m only one person, with a lot of adventures…

For now, enjoy some more pictures of Rooney and see the set list after the jump.
