From Left to Right: Paul Kostabi, Tony Esposito, Mark Kostabi
On April 19, 2015, composer, painter, sculptor and all around good guy, Mark Kostabi hosted a Sunday morning jam session at Dillon Gallery in New York. The show was an unofficial warm up jam for his show with Kostabeat (featuring Tony Esposito) at The Cutting Room in New York on April 21, 2015 (Tickets are available at this link, which will open in a new window).

The vibe was electric for the event and art works by both Mark and Paul Kostabi were prominently featured throughout the gallery.

Here’s a video of Kostabeat performing “Kalimba.” The band features Mark Kostabi, Paul Kostabi (from White Zombie), Mollie Israel (The Lost Patrol), Paul Nowinski (Les Paul, Keith Richards and Rickie Lee Jones), Tony Esposito and Keith LeBlanc (Annie Lennox and Seal).

Watching Kostabeat could have been more than enough, but as a bonus, we were treated to a set by artist and musician Scott Putesky, who you might remember as Daisy Berkowitz from the classic line up of Marilyn Manson. He warmed us up with a cover of the Pixies’ “Wave of Mutilation.”
In addition to the great music, I got to sample a new and delicious cocktail that just launched called Maven, which is a wine infused vodka drink! It’s available in both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and it’s delicious!!!
And before the event was over, Mark & Paul Kostabi switched it up musically and sat in with the band Contact High. A video is below.
Thanks to Mark for the invite to this rare and intimate jam session!

If you ever get the chance to go to Kostabi World in New York, it’s an experience I cannot recommend highly enough. Mark Kostabi is known for treating his guests like royalty and May 31, 2012 was no exception. Mark’s life is extraordinary and his art career has afforded him the luxury of living half the year in Italy and the other half in New York. Prior to Mark’s upcoming departure for Italy, he threw a Bon Voyage party that included a concert by his jazz quartet, which features his brother Paul Kostabi on guitar.
They played selections from the 2011 album “The Spectre of Modernism” and if you don’t have that album, it’s essential listening, according2g. It’s a great late night or early morning album as the music is very ethereal.

I chatted with Mark Kostabi after the set and he mentioned that they’ll be playing some shows in outdoor amphitheaters in Italy this summer. The music coupled with the atmosphere of summer in Italy are going to be mind-blowing, so if you are in the area, do not miss these shows at any cost! In addition, he has an upcoming international art exhibit featuring collaborations with Paul Kostabi.
Bon Voyage Mark and thanks again for being one of the coolest people on the planet!
You can see the set list after the jump.
