Pee Wee Herman

Ha Ha!  Made you look.  If you were a fan of the Saturday morning not just for kids television program Pee Wee’s Playhouse, you are going to cream when you go see The Pee Wee Herman show live on Broadway.  The hour and a half long show has the exact set from Pee Wee’s Playhouse including the zig-zag door, Chairy (the talking turquoise chair), Jambi (the genie whose head lives in a box, Conky the robot and show regulars (though played by different actors) such as Miss Yvonne and Cowboy Curtis.  Pee Wee does his “tequila dance” and dialogue such as “I know you are but what am I” is featured through out.  Also like the TV show, the Broadway show has a secret word.  When the word is spoken, the audience screams!  That was a joke that never seemed to wear out its welcome. The plot focuses on Pee Wee getting a new computer and possibly growing out of his 1980s companions.  Pee Wee also wants to learn how to fly and he tries to play match maker for Cowboy Curtis and Miss Yvonne.  Do any of these things happen?  I cannot say. What I can say is that I had a great time.  It was really nice seeing Paul Rubens, who was disgraced in the 1990s for jerking off in a porn theater, receiving a standing ovation for reminding us why we never lost any love for his character Pee Wee Herman.  After the show, Pee Wee Herman will not sign autographs or take photos with fans, but he comes out with a megaphone and addresses the crowd for a good 10 to 15 minutes, which makes for a fine ending to a great show, according2g.  Visit The Worley Gig’s site to read more reflections on Pee Wee!
