I know what you are thinking – Michael Jackson is dead.  The above photo might look like Michael, but it’s rock god Peter Wolf!  The former front man of the J. Geils Band performed at New York’s Bowery Ballroom on October 26, 2011.  For the first time in my New York concert going experiences at Bowery Ballroom, the show was seated.  I think it worked in this setting because the show was so intimate.  Peter Wolf told stories in between songs – sometimes the story behind the song, sometimes a fond memory from the past and sometimes he just wanted to flirt with the audience.  One memorable story was a time when he was hanging out with Howlin’ Wolf and someone pointed out to the pair that there were two Wolves (Wolf’s) in the room.  Howlin’ Wolf said “no.  There’s only one!”  Throughout the 2 hour show, Peter Wolf danced like a man possessed and if you’ve ever seen the video to “Lights Out,” you know what kind of dancing I’m talking about.  Though songs from that album were not played, Peter Wolf did play a nice selection of covers and his own solo material.  He also performed a folksy version of the J. Geils Band’s “Love Stinks,” which got a tremendous response from the audience.  By the end of the show, the entire audience was up and dancing and Peter Wolf was called back for 2 encores (totalling 6 songs!)

Both Peter Wolf and his band sounded great and if you missed him tonight, you are SOL because his show at Brooklyn’s Bell House on October 27, 2011 is sold out!  After the jump, see the set list.
