Penguin Prison Live at Tammany Hall: Non-Stop Dance Party

Chris Glover of Penguin Prison

I don’t know how they do it, but every time I see Penguin Prison live, they are better than the time before.  On July 7, 2011 the funky foursome turned New York’s Tammany Hall into an hour long dance party and it was so much fun.  I’ve seen Penguin Prison live many times and there are not many bands these days that I feel deserve so much repeat business, but Penguin Prison is one of those bands.  From the second they hit the stage, they play songs that make you feel good, throw your hands up in the air and let the music take control of your soul.  Lead singer Chris Glover plays the electric guitar over his head, jumps into the audience and has a very soulful voice.  Coupled with flashing lights and funky beats, the audience went wild.  Everyone was singing along to songs such as their singles “Golden Train,” “A Funny Thing,” “Multi-Millionaire” and the fan favorite “Don’t Fuck With My Money.”

Rockin' like a multi-millionaire

When I arrived at the venue, I met Chris Glover’s father who was in attendance and it was really cool to talk to him.  Moments later, I chatted with Chris who revealed that their debut album, which comes out in September 2011, will feature 11 tracks.  Several of the tracks have been released digitally and I like all of them, so I am very excited for the album.  The band has already done remixes for the likes of Jamiroquai and Kylie Minogue so it’s clear the future is bright for Penguin Prison. They often release free remixes to their fans, so bookmark Penguin Prison’s official site or follow them on Twitter @penguinprison so you don’t miss out on the latest news.
