Stephanie Lempert - Reconstructed Reliquaries. Now showing at Claire Oliver in New York through May 7, 2011

New York!  Get ready to see one of the most unique exhibits of the year.  Stephanie Lempert’s exhibit “Reconstructed Reliquaries” at Claire Oliver Gallery in New York is an art show like no other.  Lempert interviewed close to 100 people from all walks of life, exploring the rationale behind the reasons certain memories stay with us and why we form attachments to particular objects.  Using a three-dimensional stereoscopic printing process called Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), Lempert uses the actual handwriting of the storytellers to create the sculpture itself; the subjects’ own words make their memories tangible objects. Infusing these icons with human emotions, Lempert weaves stories, literally and figuratively reconstructing memories in such a way as to create a repository for the next generation’s hopes and dreams; the sculpture she has created becomes the touchstones of the very words they embrace.

15 sculputres are on on display in the exhibit ranging from a birdcage to a chess board and you’ll have to see the exhibit in person to fully appreciate the extreme detail and the documented stories in these wonderful works.

This clock works! Whoa!

I had the opportunity to meet Stephanie Lempert at the opening night gala reception and we had a really interesting conversation.  I congratulated her on such a wonderful and unique body of work and she was very gracious.  You can see a photo of that moment after the jump.

“Reconstructed Reliquaries” by Stephanie Lempert is showing until May 7, 2011 at Claire Oliver in New York.  Do not miss it.

Claire Oliver Gallery is Located at 513 West 26th Street, New York City. Hours are Tuesday-Saturday 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM.
