Mark Ronson and the Business Int’l are releasing their new single, the title track from Ronson’s brilliant (and brilliantly overlooked) 2010 album “Record Collection” on September 5, 2011.   The track will be a new version that features Pharrell Williams, MNDR, Wiley and Wretch 32. “Record Collection 2012” brings more edge and energy to the original, backed with a string of amazing remixes by CSS, LOGO, Moonlight Matters, Plastic Plates, DATABASE, and Perseus, who, according to Ronson himself, are all certified “f***in’ bangers!” The single will be released on Kitsuné.

On a personal note, I’ve met Mark Ronson many times and he’s one of the coolest guys on the planet.  My heart breaks for him in the wake of Amy Winehouse’s death.  He produced her genius album “Back To Black,” and I hope he is doing ok.  I only had one experience with Amy Winehouse (meeting her and seeing her in concert – which was truly amazing) and I’ve been gutted ever since I heard the tragic news.  I can’t even imagine what Mark is going through.  Thinking positive thoughts for you Mark!

Top 12 Albums of 2010

I’m so happy that 2010 was a great year for music!  Last year, I struggled to find 10 albums I liked enough and this year, I had to stop myself at my favorite 12.  I was fortunate enough to meet 11 out of the 12 artists in 2010 (Arcade Fire being the exception) and I saw 11 out of the 12 albums performed live (with Kele being the exception) and I want to take this opportunity to thank all of the artists again for making my ears so happy in 2010.  I’ve listened to all of these albums so many times this year and I love them all dearly.

I love Mark Ronson.  I love MNDR.  I love when they sing together.  This is the title track from Mark Ronson and The Business Int’l’s amazing album “Record Collection.”  The studio version’s chorus is sung by Duran Duran’s Simon LeBon.

Mark Ronson and the Business International just got finished tearing the roof off the Music Hall of Williamsburg on October 11, 2010.  It was extra special for me as I met Mark earlier in the afternoon as well as Rose Elinor Dougall and Alex Greenwald(of Phantom Planet), who are both vocalists in the Business International (more on those encounters coming soon). MNDR who I’ve seen live several times is also in Mark’s band and it’s so great watching her ascent to stardom.  I’m praying for solo albums from MNDR, Alex Greenwald and Rose Elinor Dougall produced by Mark Ronson!  Another one of my current favorite acts, Francis and the Lights opened and he was great as usual (more to come on Francis).  Then just after 10 pm, Mark Ronson and his blonde self hit the stage.

Mark Ronson and MNDR

The show was great!  Alex Greenwald sang “Just” (the Radiohead cover from Ronson’s “Version” album) as well as “California,” and “The Bike Song” (which happened because one of Mark’s personnel couldn’t get a visa in time to make the show). Rose Elinor Dougall sang “Oh My God,” (the Kaiser Chiefs cover)  and duetted with Alex Greenwald on megamix of  “You Gave Me Nothing” (from “Record Collection”) and “Stop Me if You Think You’ve Heard This One Before,” (the Smiths cover from “Version.”) MNDR sang her songs “Sparrow” and “Fade to Black” as well as the international smash hit “Bang Bang Bang.”  Rapper Spank Rock filled in for Q-tip who was present this afternoon for a taping of the David Letterman show.  Spank Rock also rapped on “Ooh Wee,” “Race Riot” (the song that got him booed off the stage earlier this year that features lyrics about sucking his dick until you become racist) and “The Bike Song.”  I was happy that Spank Rock improved a lot since I saw him last and he received cheers instead of boos this time around.  Mark Ronson even brought us back to the beginning of his career by doing a brief DJ set in the middle of the concert (that featured “Just Can’t Get Enough” by Depeche Mode).  Ronson also sang his soon to be classic track “Record Collection,” with MNDR filling in for Simon LeBon.  The show was just about 2 hours and it was so much fun.

A video of “Bang Bang Bang” and “Record Collection” will be coming soon, so stay tuned.

More pictures and the setlist after the jump.
