Neil LaBute and G

Neil LaBute is arguably the best modern playwright alive.  His stories are edgy and his unsettling portrayals of human relationships have won him legions of fans across the globe. He’s also an accomplished director (“Nurse Betty,” “The Wicker Man,” “Death At A Funeral,”) and screenwriter.  On July 26, 2010, Neil LaBute was reading from his latest collection Filthy Talk For Troubled Times and Other Plays at the Drama Bookshop in New York.  Like his stories, Neil LaBute was extremely funny as he alternated between reading passages from his book, answering questions from the audience and also treating us to unheard work!  I took a video of him reading his as yet unreleased short story “Anything You Like,” and it’ll be posted here soon, so stay tuned!  He also talked about possibly collaborating with Elvis Costello on a musical in the future and the prospect of that had the crowd squealing with delight.  I met Neil LaBute after his talk and he was extremely nice.  Thanks again Neil and I really hope to see the LaBute/Costello production coming soon!

Robert Pattinson - very much alive.

The Sun is reporting that “Twilight” star Robert Pattinson (age 24) predicts he’ll be dead by age 30 because he’s already enjoyed so much success.  Personally, I hope he lives, but I’d love it if the really awful series of movies he’s starred in are never mentioned again within the next 6 years and beyond.  Stay alive Robert!

Lady Gaga with clothes on.

The Daily Star is reporting that Lady Gaga is in talks to appear nude in Playboy Magazine.  Allegedly, the singer was quoted as saying the photos will “help her grow as an artist.”  I guess we’ll finally get to see if the curtains match the drapes.  What are your thoughts on this rumour?  Do you think it’ll help her career or will it be the kiss of death?  One thing is sure, I’ll never be able to listen to “Poker Face” the same way again.

Courtney Love and Scarlett Johansson

If you are like me and you believe everything you read on the internet, you’ll have no problem with a report from The Sun that Courtney Love is in talks to have a bio-pic of Kurt Cobain’s life coming soon to the big screen. Scarlett Johansson will play Courtney Love and Robert Pattinson will play Kurt Cobain.  I think ScarJo as Courtney might be good casting but R-Patz as Kurt?  What do you think of these rumours?  Who is your ideal Kurt and Courtney?

Robert Pattinson as Kurt Cobain?

PS.  The pictures above were taken (with my hand) at the following:  Courtney and Scarlett (at Carnegie Hall in 2009); Robert Pattinson in the East Village of New York on the set of “Remember Me.”

Lady Gaga. Coming soon to 3-D?

Rumours abound that Lady Gaga is filming her “Monster Ball” show for an eventual DVD release and the NME is reporting that the release will probably be in 3-D!  When the singer released her deluxe “Fame Monster” box set last year, a pair of 3-D glasses were included in the set with a note saying “things should be happening soon.”  You gotta hand it to Lady Gaga for staying ahead of the curve.  As it seems all movies are being shot in 3-D, this will probably become the future for concert releases as well.  This still gives you a little time to get a Blu-Ray player.  When more is known about this DVD package, you’ll be hearing about it here.
