Sam Mickens and G.
Prior to hitting the stage for a sold-out show at the Bowery Ballroom in New York on May 16, 2010, I met Sam Mickens of Sam Mickens’ Ecstatic Showband and Revue. Sam’s voice is heavenly as he sings in a signature falsetto style. When I arrived at the venue, Sam was having a slice of delicious New York pizza in front of the venue and after he finished eating, he posed for a photo with his favorite blogger. He was extremely nice and moments later when he and his awesome band hit the stage, I loved every second of it. Check out his music as I think you’ll love it too. Thanks again Sam!

On May 16, 2010, Sam Mickens’ Ecstatic Showband and Revue played the Bowery Ballroom in New York City. Sam Mickens used to front the indie-pop group Dead Science. Citing my beloved Prince as one of his biggest influences, Mickens sings in a signature falsetto voice that is unmistakable. His new band is much different than Dead Science and from the first note they played, I was in heaven. The 8-piece band is a little bit of jazz, a little bit of rockabilly and a lot of fun! Their songs remind me a bit of another beloved group of mine, Morphine, not in sound but in the way the songs are crafted. Each one is short and to the point and nearly perfect. Sam Mickens had the sexy swagger of a great band leader and I am really looking forward to see what the future brings for this band on the rise. I met Sam Mickens prior to taking the stage for this sold out performance, but more on that coming soon. You can hear a bunch of the band’s songs on their myspace page (link is above), but I couldn’t find any free legal mp3s. However, you can get some Dead Science mp3s while supplies last from our friends at Brooklyn Vegan. Definitely check out Sam Mickens’ voice because I think he’ll instantly turn you into a fan.
