New York!  Head over to Last Rites Gallery for a pair of cool exhibitions.  First up is “Taking Over” by Sarah Joncas.  This is Sarah’s second exhibit at the gallery and it features 14 new paintings and one drawing.  The figures she draws embrace the dark side of life and all appear to have an interesting back story that will leave you wondering where these people came from.

Also featured is Chris Haas’ “Waking the Dead” which are the coolest animal skulls you’ll ever see.  It’s hard to see the details in these photos (read: go to Last Rites and see them in person!) but each one is so ornate, they look like the remains of a magical breed of animals.

"Lilith" by Sarah Joncas. Now showing at Last Rites Gallery in New York through May 30, 2011.

22 year old Canadian artist Sarah Joncas’ first exhibition in New York is entitled “Lilith” and it’s now on display at Last Rites Gallery.  The characters Joncas paints (which are not based on models and instead are all created through her subconscious) are extremely beautiful.  However, with beauty and sexiness comes an element of danger, mystery and darkness!

You will definitely find yourself wanting to know more about the moments before and after these paintings, so bring your imagination to Last Rites and check out “Lilith” by Sarah Joncas.

I was fortunate enough to attend the opening night reception and I spoke with Sarah Joncas.  I had the opportunity to tell her how fantastic I think her works of art are. I also welcomed her to the Big Apple and I told her that I have no doubt we’ll be seeing many more exhibits to come.  See a photo of that moment after the jump.  Thanks again Sarah!
