New York!  Please repost this, retweet it, put it on your favorite social media sites and spread the word!

I’ve written about the dangers of hydrofracking before and you owe it to yourself to know the facts.  At the very least, please read the following:

Misleading the public under the false claim that gas is a “clean” energy, the oil and gas industry is currently using a toxic and hazardous process for natural gas extraction called hydraulic fracturing (“hydrofracking”).  This process, currently ongoing in 34 states in the USA, is causing irreparable damage to the environment, poisoning humans and animals, making farms, homes and large tracts of land uninhabitable.

The other night I saw The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger (The GOASTT) perform at Bowery Ballroom in New York.  I enjoyed their set and found that there was no way I wasn’t going to say hello to lead singers Sean Lennon and model Charlotte Kemp Muhl.  As you can see from these pictures, both Sean and Charlotte (who are also boyfriend and girlfriend) were extremely cool.  I resisted telling Sean that I love his parents because I am sure he is so over hearing that, but I’ll say it here – because it’s true.  Also, don’t you love Sean’s Flaming Lips T-shirt?  I do!

Thanks again to Sean and Charlotte for an evening of great music and for being so cool after the set!

Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger

The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger

New York got a double dose of Sean Lennon on July 18, 2011 at Bowery Ballroom.  Sean’s band The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger opened for Sean’s former band mates Cibo Matto and then later on in the evening, Sean made a guest appearance during Cibo Matto’s set.  The Ghost of A Saber Tooth Tiger is made up of Sean Lennon and his girlfriend, model and musician Charlotte Kemp Muhl.  The band often performs acoustic sets, but last night, The GOASTT went electric!  The band played several songs from their debut album “Acoustic Sessions” performing the tracks with rock arrangements for the first time.  In between songs, Sean addressed the crowd and was very soft spoken.  He asked the audience if they were familiar with the term “rock out with your cock out,” and he advised that he coined the female version of that phrase – “jam out with your clam out.”  Too funny!  Speaking of rockin’, if you don’t know the music of The GOASTT, it’s experimental, avant garde and you’ll hear Sean and Charlotte harmonizing (as well as performing lengthy guitar solos).  Good stuff, according2g.

The band has announced a few upcoming tour dates, so make sure you go see them!

Saturday 10/15/11 – Staller Center, Stonybrook NY

Friday 10/7/11 – Bush Hall, London UK

Thursday 10/6/11 – Cafe de la Danse, Paris FRANCE

Friday 9/30/11 – Littlefield, Brooklyn NY

Sunday 8/28/11 – Serge Gainsbourg Tribute at The Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles CA

Miho Hatori of Cibo Matto

Miho Hatori of Cibo Matto

Cibo Matto, the Japanese acid jazz/trip hop band broke up in 2001.  They’ve recently reunited and celebrated getting back together with a  sold-out show at New York’s Bowery Ballroom on July 18, 2011.  The band’s name means “crazy food” in Italian, so as you should expect, many of their songs are about food.  Lead singer Miho Hatori’s stories in between songs were absolutely hilarious.  Of course, many of them were about food, but she addressed the real reason the band broke up – they all went to jail!  She was kidding, but had some pretty great stories about the types of food they would have eaten in jail.

Highlights for me were the songs “Sci-Fi Wasabi” and “Know Your Chicken,” which was the final number of the night.  Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger opened up for Cibo Matto and is Sean Lennon’s band.  Sean got his musical start in Cibo Matto and he joined his former band mates for the song “Moonchild.”  Lennon reflected on his days in the band and mentioned traveling the world with Cibo Matto eating delicious food together on their journeys.  The band happily signed merchandise after the show was over but before they exited the stage, they gave the crowd something to whet our appetites – Cibo Matto is recording a new album!  For those of us hungry for new music from Cibo Matto, the band promises to satiate us very soon.  Stay tuned!

Dylan-Fest at the Bowery Ballroom

Sean Lennon

May 27, 2010 was an all-star jam night at New York’s Bowery Ballroom for Dylan-Fest, a celebration of the life and music of Bob Dylan.  Dylan turned 69 this week and everyone from Sean Lennon to Boz Skaggs turned out to wish the singer/poet a happy birthday.  I was coming from another all-star event (the Woodstock of Street Art – and much more on that later), so I was a bit overloaded by the time the show started.  From our friends at Brooklyn Vegan, here’s the lineup for Dylan-Fest:  Fab Moretti and Nikolai Fraiture of the Strokes, Patrick Carney of The Black Keys, Adam Green, Norah Jones, Sean Lennon and Charlotte Kemp Muhl of Ghost of a Saber Toothed Tiger, The Pierces, Binki Shapiro from Little Joy, Jesse Malin, Nicole Atkins, Tracy Bonham, Antony Ellis of 5 O’Clock Heroes, Sammy James Jr. of the Mooney Suzuki, Josh Lattanzi of the Candles, Jody Porter from Fountains Of Wayne, Tyson Ritter of the All American Rejects, Steve Schiltz of Longwave and Hurricane Bells.

See a picture of Boz Skaggs, a surprise guest, as well as the set list after the jump.
