Peter Moren of Peter Bjorn and John
My birthday celebration has officially kicked off by seeing one of my favorite bands, Peter Bjorn and John. The Swedish trio played a sold out show at New York’s Bowery Ballroom on September 16, 2011. The show was part of the band’s “All You Can Eat” tour and week long residency in New York and it was great! The night began at 9 pm with the electronic duo Niki and the Dove. At 10 pm, the Japanese pop/rock group The Suzan took the stage. Peter Bjorn and John went on at 11 pm and their hour and 40 minute set was packed with hits and fan favorites.
Bjorn and John
PB and J took things almost back to the beginning by playing a trip of songs from their 2nd album, 2004s “Falling Out.” They played “Far Away, By My Side,” “Teen Love” and my favorite song on the record “It Beats Me Every Time.” From “Writer’s Block,” they played “Amsterdam,” “Objects of My Affection” (which was the final song of the night) and “Young Folks.” For those wondering, the whistling is done by Peter Moren, who flawlessly recreated it tonight. He walked through the crowd durng the song and a video of “Young Folks” will be coming soon, so stay tuned. It’s a good one!

From “Living Thing,” they played “It Don’t Move Me” and “Just The Past.” Surprisingly, “Nothing to Worry About” and “Lay It Down,” were not played, but I heard from fans that they’ve been changing the set list from night to night. From their new album, “Gimmie Some,” they played “Tomorrow Has To Wait,” “Dig A Little Deeper,” “Second Chance,” “Eyes,” “May Seem Macabre,” and “Down Like Me.” I am seeing them again on Sunday night at Mercury Lounge and I cannot wait. The energy of the audience was great, PB and J are very engaging with the crowd and their songs are catchy and rockin’! All good things, according2g.
