Closing out the New York portion of their “All You Can Eat” tour, Peter Bjorn and John played a sold out show at New York’s Mercury Lounge on September 18, 2011. This tour saw Peter Bjorn and John playing 5 shows in New York at 5 differnent venues, so it makes perfect sense that the set lists would be varied. I saw the Swedish trio 2 nights ago at Bowery Ballroom and the set list was radically different! A few things that stayed the same – the band is super animated on stage, and Peter Moren’s energy is infectious. Also staying the same, the New York crowd loved every second of PB and J’s hour and 40 minute set.
The setlist featured “Teen Love” and “Big Black Coffin” from the band’s 2nd album “Falling Out.” Peter told the crowd that they don’t remember any of the songs from their debut record so they don’t play them. From “Writer’s Block,” they once again played “Young Folks,” but the other cuts they played from this album were different than 2 nights ago – “Up Against The Wall,” (which was the final song) “Let’s Call It Off.” From “Living Thing” they played “It Don’t Move Me” and “Nothing To Worry About.”
From their latest record, “Gimmie Some,” “Tomorrow Has to Wait,” “Eyes,” “Dig A Little Deeper,” “May Seem Macabre,” “Second Chance” and “Down Like Me Were Played.” This show seemed to be a lot more rock oriented than the other night and there was a lot more jamming tonight. Peter Moren walked through the audience during “May Seem Macabre” instead of “Young Folks” like he normally does, but he still did the pitch perfect whistling from “Young Folks.” Peter Bjorn and John are really great live and I highly recommend seeing them when they come to your town. In hindsight, I wish I would have gone to each of their New York shows because the whole vibe of the show was different – a sign that these 3 lads from Sweden know exactly what they are doing. Thanks to Peter Bjorn and John for 2 great nights and right before my birthday!
Hope to see you again soon!
