The more I listen to Klaxons, the more I love them.  When they performed “As Above So Below” on my birthday at New York’s Bowery Ballroom, it looked and sounded exactly like this:

September 20, 2010 was a great day!  I celebrated my birthday watching Klaxons play a wickedly awesome show at New York’s Bowery Ballroom.  After the show, I met the band and all members were delightfully nice.  They were all so excited to be back in New York and it showed in their performance.  I was wearing a shirt designed by Klaxons for charity and it struck me funny that none of them commented.  But when you do random acts of kindness, you are not really supposed to mention it…  Thanks again guys for showing the birthday boy a good time!

Baby Monster

Prior to an awesome set by Klaxons, the LA-based band Baby Monster got the crowd pumped up at New York’s Bowery Ballroom on September 20, 2010.  Their music has a thumpin’ dance beat and the crowd was grooving to each song as if the band had been around for years!  One half of the duo, Danny Sternbaum is being hailed as the new “it” producer and I read on the net that he was offered a chance to engineer an album that Michael Jackson was working on prior to his death.  Pretty cool, according2g.  You can hear Baby Monster for yourself as our friends at RCRD LBL are offering a free legal download of the awesome “Ultra Violence and Beethoven.”  Get it while supplies last.  In the meanwhile, get ready for Baby Monster’s world domination.  I met the band after the show and they were both super nice.  See pix from that encounter after the jump.

What better way to spend your birthday than with the British dance-punk band Klaxons?  On September 20, 2010, at New York’s Bowery Ballroom, that’s exactly what I did.  This was my first time seeing the band live and they rocked!  They played all their singles “As Above So Below,” “Gravity’s Rainbow,” “Magick,” “Atlantis to Interzone,” “Golden Skans,” “It’s Not Over Yet,” and “Echoes.” In addition, they also played a lot of their new album “Surfing the Void,” which came out recently.  The crowd went wild during every song, but luckily for me, body slamming did not occur.

Jamie Reynolds and James Righton traded vocal duties and they both told the crowd numerous times how glad they were to be playing for us!  They used strobe lights throughout the show which added to the disco-punk vibe that the music has and I really had a great time at the show.  I spotted the band We Are Scientists as well as Dev Hynes from Lightspeed Champion in the audience.  I overheard that members of Hercules and Love Affair as well as members of The Strokes were in attendance, but I didn’t see them to confirm this rumour.  Also, I met Klaxons after their gig and the band was really cool.  More on my encounter with them coming soon, so stay tuned.

After the jump, see some more pictures as well as the set list.
