Marcia Wallace

Marcia Wallace

Sad news!  Actress Marcia Wallace has passed away at the age of 71, according to the internet.  Marcia Wallace was receptionist Carol Kester on The Bob Newhart Show and was also the voice of Mrs. Krabappel on The Simpsons.  I met Marcia many times over the years and she was always super sweet. I remember the first time I saw her flash her signature smile in person, it really lit up my day. May she rest in peace.

If you grew up in the 1980s as I did, you are going to be extra sad when you read on.  “Family Ties” series creator Gary David Goldberg has died.  He was a few days short of his 69th birthday, succumbing to brain cancer.  He also wrote episodes for “The  Bob Newhart Show” and also produced “Lou Grant.”  He won two Emmys, a Peabody award and two Golden Globes for his work.  I had the occasion of meeting Gary David Goldberg several times and he was always super friendly.  Of course, I gushed to him my love for “Family Ties,” and he thanked me for my support!  What a class act.  RIP, Gary David Goldberg!  🙁

Jean Stapleton

Jean Stapleton

Sad news out of Hollywood via NYC.  Actress Jean Stapleton has died at the age of 90.  She will be best remembered for her bubble headded role as Edith Bunker, the wife of lovable bigot Archie Bunker on the hit show “All In The Family.”  With everything being so politically correct now, it’s a wonder if a show like that could exist today?  It matters not because Jean was part of a ground breaking show decades ago that talked about the elephant in the room and now, like so many other legends, she is gone.  RIP Jean!

Sad news out of Hollywood today.  Actress and the original Mouseketeer Annette Funicello has died.  I met her right after she announced she was suffering from multiple sclerosis.  Even though you could tell she was in a great amount of pain as she signed autographs, there was no way she could turn down a fan requesting her signature.  That’s a class act, according to G!  She was an inspiration to a generation and she will continue to inspire.  Rest in peace Annette!

Roger Ebert

Roger Ebert

Sad news!  Movie critic Roger Ebert has died after a really long illness.  Like so many people, I grew up watching Siskel and Ebert’s movie reviews and because of some of their glowing reviews, I saw movies that changed my life that I probably wouldn’t have bothered seeing otherwise.  On the same note, I disagreed strongly with so many of their harsh reviews, but one thing that I am in full agreement with is that every time I saw Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel, they were always very nice.  I imagine at this very moment Gene and Roger are reunited and are probably catching up on all the movies they have never discussed.  RIP Roger!
