Casio Noise Dream Pop alert! Brooklyn’s Small Black dropped by Daytrotter recently and you can download a 4 song live set for FREE! I’ve seen Small Black live and I liked them so much I got their album “New Chain.” It’s great. Highlights are “New Chain,” “Hyrda” and “Photojournalist.” Two of those songs can be heard live when you visit Daytrotter. Tell ’em G sent ya!
The other day, I told you about the New York band Small Black. I loved what I heard when I saw them live at the Bowery Ballroom and frankly, how could you not love a band who describes their sound as “Casio dream noise pop?” Their album “New Chain” is coming out on October 26, 2010 and I am looking forward to it. They are going to be touring the US with Class Actress, another band I love, at the end of this month so don’t miss them! You can see the tour schedule as well as stream some tracks on their Myspace page (link is above).
You can also hear “Pleasant Experience” by Small Black by just simply pressing “play.” I hope you have a pleasant experience.
Brooklyn-based-band Small Black (whew, tongue twister) opened for California band Best Coast at the Bowery Ballroom on September 29, 2010. They describe their sound as “Casio dream noise pop,” and they pretty much hit the nail on the head with those 4 words. Citing influences from Gary Numan to Wu Tang Clan to hot boys (oh, behave!), the band played a great 7 song set, getting the crowd ready to rock. If you missed the show last night, they’ll be performing at the upcoming CMJ music marathon.
Our good friends at RCRD LBL have 3 free mp3s of Small Black, while supplies last, so if any of these words tickle your fancy, check out their music. I met lead singer Josh Kolenik after Small Black’s awesome set and he was very nice. Thanks Josh! See a picture of Josh and I as well as the set list after the jump. Good luck to Small Black!
