Duran Duran fans have been hitting pay dirt recently with deluxe reissues of their first 3 classic albums. In 1985, when Duran Duran was in the midst of a personnel change, Roger Taylor, Nick Rhodes and Simon LeBon formed a group called Arcadia. The side project only released one album, the classic “So Red The Rose,” and it has been remastered and been given the 2 CD / 1 DVD treatment. While this set does not include any previously unreleased music, there are 19 songs that have never been available on CD! All of the single edits and 12″ versions (which are all different than the album versions) for the songs “Election Day,” “The Flame,” “The Promise,” “Say The Word,” and “Goodbye is Forever” are finally issued on CD and they sound great. There are 4 additional remixes of “Election Day,” a dub remix of “Goodbye Is Forever,” “Say The Word,” and “The Flame,” an instrumental version of “The Promise,” and an extended version of “Rose Arcana.” The DVD contains videos and the makings of each video for “Election Day,” “The Promise,” “Goodbye Is Forever,” “The Flame,” and “Missing,” none of which have ever been issued on DVD before. The only thing that is disappointing about this package is a chintzy 3 page booklet that does not feature the lyrics (which were included in the original vinyl release). The deluxe edition of “So Red The Rose,” is certainly the definitive document for a side project whose only album is perfection with guest appearances from Grace Jones, Sting, David Gilmour (of Pink Floyd) and Herbie Hancock. “So Red The Rose (Special Edition)” is out now.
