What a day!  I get to premiere not one, but two new tracks from Fleetwood Mac today!  The first, of course, was the previously unreleased Buckingham Nicks classic “Without You” from Madison Square Garden in New York on April 8, 2013.

What you are about to see is another new song entitled “Sad Angel.”  It rates up there with the classic Fleetwood Mac sound that made the world fall in love with them and you will also hear Lindsey Buckingham tell the world that the song will be released (along with “Without You”) imminently!  This is great news.  The Mac is back!  Enjoy this new song by one of my favorite bands of all time – Fleetwood Mac!

I’ve been a Fleetwood Mac fan for most of my life.  Lindsey Buckingham is a god to me.  I can’t get enough of the Lindsey/Stevie era of Fleetwood Mac which  is roughly from 1975 to present day (with some years off in the 80s and 90s).  Before Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham joined Fleetwood Mac, they were a duo known as Buckingham Nicks.  Their one and only album has never been issued on CD, though it’s quite easy to track down on the internet in digital format.  It was overlooked at the time, but it’s really a perfect record.  It was actually how Mick Fleetwood discovered the pair and subsequently asked them to join Fleetwood Mac.  A song from the sessions that has never been released has recently been unearthed and for the 40th anniversary of Buckingham Nicks, they recorded a new version of the song.  I never thought it possible that the song would be released and performed live, but on April 8, 2013 at Madison Square Garden they blew my mind and performed the gorgeous track “Without You.”  For being a fan all these years, it’s my absolute pleasure to present a live version of “Without You” to you my readers and to all the Fleetwood Mac/Buckingham Nicks fans out there! Sorry if it gets a little blurry in some spots, but what can you do?

ENJOY!!!!

Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingam - MSG 2013

Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingam – MSG 2013

The Mac is back!  On April 7, 2013, Fleetwood Mac tore the roof off the sold out Madison Square Garden in New York.  I’ve been a Fleetwood Mac fan for as long as I can remember, and I have seen them in concert about 10 times since they reunited in 1997 plus numerous solo shows by both Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham.  Separately, they are geniuses in their own right, but when they get together on stage, they are electric!  For the FM fans that have seen it all when it comes to this band, you cannot honestly say it anymore without seeing this tour.

In addition to the hits (which I’ll get to in a minute), they played a new song entitled “Sad Angel” which is on par with classic era Fleetwood Mac material as well as the recently dusted off and previously unreleased Buckingham Nicks era track “Without You.”  The fact that that song is seeing a fresh new life was worth the hefty concert price for me, but there were so many highlights.  And as a die-hard Fleetwood Mac fan, it will be my absolute pleasure to premiere these live videos for you, so please stay tuned.  You’ll love them both, I assure you!

Stevie Nicks

Stevie Nicks

Stevie Nicks!  When you think of the abuse she put her body through with drugs, it’s amazing she’s still alive let alone performing night after night and looking and sounding great.  During a 4 song mini-set in tribute to the album “Tusk,” Stevie sang “Sara” and “Sisters of the Moon,” which she said has not been performed since 1979 (but of course, being a die-hard, I will correct her because who could forget the Mirage Tour performance where she speaks in tongues at the end of the song?)  She didn’t speak in tongues this time around, but she delivered great vocals and also sang “Gold Dust Woman,” “Gypsy,” as well as her solo hit “Stand Back.”

While I love Stevie Nicks and I think she’s really fantastic, it’s no secret that Lindsey Buckingham is one of my gods.  His guitar playing is otherworldly and whether he’s in the Mac or singing solo material, he takes me to another place.  Every time I try and talk myself out of seeing Fleetwood Mac because of the fact I’ve seen them so many times and ticket prices are high, I remember that Lindsey Buckingham will play “I’m So Afraid,” which features my favorite guitar solo of all time (and it varies each time he plays it), and I make sure I am there.  That is a song that has grown organically as he plays it live and over the years, and it just gets better and better.  A video of “I’m So Afraid” will be coming soon so please stay tuned.  If you aren’t a Lindsey Buckingham fan after you see that incredible performance, we can no longer be friends!  Ha!  But seriously, you will see what a genius he is if you weren’t already aware. Speaking of genius and organically grown songs, “Eyes of the World,” “Second Hand News,” “Never Going Back Again,” and “Big Love” all were performed and their live renditions have become as great (if not better) than their original studio versions.

Set list staples such as “The Chain,” “Landslide,” “Dreams,” “Rhiannon,” “Don’t Stop” (featuring Stevie singing Christine Mc Vie’s parts), and “Go Your Own Way” were played.  Even if you are sick of those songs because they play them to death on the radio, hearing the whole of Madison Square Garden sing along with the band is an experience that should not be missed!

Mick Fleetwood MSG

Mick Fleetwood got his drum solo in during the ‘White Album’s “World Turning.”  Mick also closed the show by wishing that we all treat each other with respect and love, which is a great thought to leave with.  Go Mick!  The final two songs were the “Rumours” b-side turned hit “Silver Springs” and “Say You Will’s” “Say Goodbye,” which was a beautiful song to end a perfect night.   And for those wondering, they hit the stage around 8:25 pm and ended just around 11 pm.

The band had pretty cool visuals on the screens behind them and by the end of the show, they were playing in front of huge versions of themselves up on the screens which was a fun thing to look at as the songs of our generation were performed in front of us.

Fleetwood Mac is on tour for much of 2013, so do not miss them when they come to your city.  Thanks Fleetwood Mac for blowing my mind yet again!

Review: A Conversation With Lindsey Buckingham at 92Y, NYC

Lindsey Buckingham 92Y

Lindsey Buckingham at the 92Y in New York

Some people will always remember the 5th of November.  I’ll always remember the 4th of November, 2011.  It’s the day that I met one of my musical gods – Lindsey Buckingham.  The 92Y in New York presented an hour and a half program called “A Conversation with Lindsey Buckingham,” and it was a die-hard fan’s dream come true.  He was interviewed by Anthony DeCurtis, who is obviously a fan of Lindsey’s music, so the discussion was relaxed, open, honest and it really felt like eavesdropping into the mind of one of the biggest musical geniuses of my lifetime.  So many questions I’ve been dying to know the answers to were answered as Lindsey Buckingham talked about everything from his love for the Brian Jones era of the Rolling Stones to the creative genius and madness of Brian Wilson to the changes of the marketability of music, some of his current favorites (including Arcade Fire, Vampire Weekend and Dirty Projectors), his kids listening to the music of Katy Perry to getting to and being in a place where his life is totally enriched by being a family man – which wasn’t always the case in the “glory days” of Fleetwood Mac.  He was even asked what he would have done if Fleetwood Mac didn’t happen and though Lindsey found the question to be interesting, he said it was too hard to speculate but he also reiterated the magic event of himself and Stevie Nicks getting the opportunity to become members of Fleetwood Mac and how it changed the direction their lives took.

Lindsey has a new solo album, the excellent “Seeds We Sow,” and he talked about how the album came about, as well the differences between being a solo artist and being with a super group such as Fleetwood Mac – the small machine and big machine, as he put it.  Lindsey Buckingham has clearly thought through his incredible journey and is incredibly optimistic about his outlook on life.  This conversation was very intimate and from reading recent interviews, it’s interesting to see how his words can get twisted.  For example, he prefaced rumours (pun sort of intended) of  getting back together with Fleetwood Mac and he was honest by saying, Lindsey, Stevie, Mick and John are down for it, times are being scheduled for 2012 for the Mac to get together, but also things can change because that’s just how life goes sometimes.  The press likes to turn that into definite statements.

Lindsey fans – read on – there’s info about Buckingham Nicks after the jump!

Rock goddess Stevie Nicks is releasing her latest solo album “In Your Dreams” this week and had planned on celebrating with a star studded concert at New York’s Webster Hall as well as with appearances on Good Day NY and the Today Show.  According to her official website, she is battling pneumonia and had to cancel all appearances.  She promises to reschedule when she is better.  I hope that is soon!  Get well Stevie!
