Charming Baker and G
When I first saw British artist Charming Baker’s premiere solo exhibition (of what will surely be many more to come) in America, he immediately charmed his way onto my list of favorite artists. From the name alone, “Stupid Has A New Hero,” I found it impossible not to fall in love with an exhibit whose intended effect is described by the artist as “that slightly unnerving feeling you get when you have your arse patted in public, but you’re not exactly sure who’s patting it.” Then I saw the works that Damien Hirst has been buying up by the truckload and I was in love. Naturally, when I met him at the launch of the ultra-fabulous book Beyond the Street, I was super excited to meet this charming man. He did not disappoint and was extremely cool. I’d like to thank him again for being so nice to me and for making really great art. I wish him great success in the future.

Stupid Has a New Hero by Charming Baker now at the NY Studio Gallery thru May 30, 2010.
British artist Charming Baker has set the art world on fire with his first ever solo exhibition in America at the New York Studio Gallery. Prior to its debut on May 14, 2010, the show had sold out and the opening attracted the art elite. When I saw the exhibit, I was pleased to find that Baker has charmed his way into my life. His paintings juxtapose the simple and the sinister, and each work is guaranteed to, for a lack of a better word, be totally charming. You might not be able to see the detail in the photos below, but often times, Charming Baker has shot multiple bullet holes in the canvas, again blurring the lines of the innocent and the violent. I loved this show so much and as it only runs through May 30, 2010, you should definitely check it out before it’s too late. The New York Studio Gallery is located at 154 Stanton Street (at Suffolk).
