New art trend:  Why have one exhibit when you can have many exhibits?  Lately, I’ve been seeing the same artist having multiple exhibitions simultaneously at different galleries within the same city (and often a bonus exhibition in another city).  Photographer Ryan McGinley is riding on that curve as he’s got two exhibits in New York currently.  Team Gallery is hosting two separate exhibitions from McGinley – “Animals” and “Grids.”

“Grids” focuses on individual portraits of fans at concerts and “Animals” shows nude models posing with live animals!

After the jump, see a semi-Not Safe For Closed Minded People photo as well as my signature – a photo of me chatting with the artist!

“Grids” is showing at Team Gallery, located at 47 Wooster Street,  and “Animals” is showing at 83 Grand Street in New York.  Both exhibits run until June 2, 2012.

What could be better than attending the opening night gala reception of Marilyn Minter’s “Paintings from the 80s” exhibit at Team Gallery in New York?  I know!  Meeting the legendary artist.  Marilyn Minter was extremely nice when I chatted with her and congratulated her on a great exhibition.  The show is a collection of paintings she did in the 1980s and you can see some NSCFCMP (not safe for closed-minded people) images of the exhibit here.  Thanks again Marilyn.  What a pleasure to meet you!

“Paintings from the 80s” by Marilyn Minter is showing at Team Gallery until April 30, 2011.  Team Gallery is located at 83 Grand Street in Manhattan.

The above images may no longer be shocking in the porn/chatroom generation we currently live in, but back when Marilyn Minter presented these works to the world in the 1980s, a lot of eyebrows were raised and a lot of controversy was caused.  The Team Gallery in New York is celebrating these works in an exhibit called “Paintings from the 80s.”  It’s hard to tell from these photos but these are not silk screened, they are hand painted!  The above shot (pun definitely intended) is called “Porn Grid” and was made in 1989.  The opening night gala reception was off the hook with a who’s who of the art world and the New York scene.  Spotted in the crowd were Charlie Ahearn (director of the graffiti/hip hop classic “Wild Style”), fashion designer Cynthia Rowley, international blog superstar Geoffrey Dicker, former Basquiat girlfriend Suzanne Mallouk, photographer Cindy Sherman, former Madonna dancer Erica Bell, artist Scott Campbell, art critic Jerry Saltz and of course, the artist herself, Marilyn Minter.
