Top 12 Albums of 2010

I’m so happy that 2010 was a great year for music!  Last year, I struggled to find 10 albums I liked enough and this year, I had to stop myself at my favorite 12.  I was fortunate enough to meet 11 out of the 12 artists in 2010 (Arcade Fire being the exception) and I saw 11 out of the 12 albums performed live (with Kele being the exception) and I want to take this opportunity to thank all of the artists again for making my ears so happy in 2010.  I’ve listened to all of these albums so many times this year and I love them all dearly.

Kele Okereke and G

Kele Okereke, has dropped his last name and his band Bloc Party for the moment. Kele’s debut solo album “The Boxer,” which I am liking more and more with each listen, is being released on June 21, 2010.  To celebrate the record, Kele threw a listening party at New York’s Le Poisson Rouge on June 16, 2010 and I was there to catch all the action.  He played the album in full (and the crowd loved it!) and then afterwards he did a DJ set.  As I was getting my groove on, I caught Kele’s eye and asked if I could take a picture with him.  He obliged and was super nice!  Thanks Kele!  Loving your debut solo album “The Boxer” and I can’t wait to see you live in August!  And for all Kele fans, you can get an exclusive (and really great) mp3 remix of his awesome new single “Tenderoni” on his official site as well as downloading stems to make you own remixes, while supplies last!

Kele - The Boxer. Out June 22, 2010.

I am largely unfamiliar with Bloc Party’s music, but when I heard that lead singer Kele would be making a dance album, you know I snatched up a ticket for his upcoming August show in New York.  I was really planning on hearing the album in full for the first time when I saw him live, but curiosity got the best of me when I was given a review copy of his debut solo album “The Boxer.”

See my brief track by track comments, after the jump.
