The Hold Steady is on a short hiatus.  Lead singer Craig Finn is not taking this time to get some R&R but instead, he’s recorded a solo album and he performed it at New York’s Mercury Lounge on February 29, 2012 at two back to back sold out shows.  Craig Finn’s reputation precedes him and if you’ve never  heard his music before, you can expect rockin’ tunes that tell great stories.  In the live setting, every song has a great introduction that makes you want to want to go have a beer with him and soak up his great sense of humor.  For example, when he played the song “Some Guns,” he introduced the song by saying how he loves bands that have the name of their band as a song (and he mentioned groups like Bad Company as an example).  He christened the name of his solo band “Some Guns” so he mentioned he was proud to join the ranks of having his own theme song.  He also sang not one, but two songs about Jesus, but instead of having religious themes, one was about his friend named Jesus and the other was a cover (“Save Me Jesus”) that featured the F-bomb in it!  He also introduced the song “Balcony” by saying “this is for those of you who’ve been out at a party, you go to smoke a cigarette and you come back to find your girl is cheating on you with another man.”  Craig Finn will be back in New York on March 8, 2012 playing Music Hall of Williamsburg, so get your ticket before they are gone!
