Click play and see why Theophilus London is set to be one of the hottest new stars of the music scene. Last name London. First name Theophilus. This catchy jam will be stuck in your head for days! Theophilus London’s album “Timez Are Weird These Days” is out now.
This is a big week for Theophilus (pronounced “Thee-off-ill-us”) London. He released his debut album “Timez Are Weird These Days” earlier in the week and he celebrated in New York by playing a sold out show at Manhattan’s Bowery Ballroom on July 21, 2011. I’m not really a fan of modern rap, but I’ve seen Theophilus London in concert before and he won me over in a big way. In addition to the smooth sound of his voice, his music has funky beats and he’s extremely entertaining to watch. He dances around (s0metimes on one foot) and got the audience engaged from the second he walked on stage (around 10:35 pm). Though his album came out a few days ago, most people (including myself) have been listening to the record non-stop, so everybody at the show knew the words to the songs.
He played a bunch of the songs I really love from “Timez Are Weird These Days” including “Wine and Chocolates,” “Why Even Try” (sans Sara Quin), “Love is Real” and “Last Name London.” He also played the ultra-funky “Strange Days” (you can click here to see a video of the song that I posted back in January). As that song is not on the record, I asked Theophilus after the show where that song is available and he advised it’s on his EP “Lover’s Holiday.” Thanks for that TL! With some googling, you can also find Theophilus London’s mixtapes “This Charming Mixtape” and “Jam!” Happy hunting. There are some gems!
Last name London. First name Theophilus.
I am hopeful that Theophilus London will be a big star. He’s certainly got the talent and the stage presence. If the audience reaction to his set is any indication of future success, I think we’re going to be hearing a lot more from him. Good!
