On November 15, 2011, Boise, Idaho’s Youth Lagoon played their second of 2 sold out shows at Mercury Lounge in New York.  The show began with the tribal music of Australia’s (but now based in New York) Young Magic.  Technical problems delayed the start of Youth Lagoon’s set, but it was worth the wait!  Lead singer Trevor Powers’ voice has elements of Bob Dylan and Andrew VanWyngarden from MGMT.  Many songs started off with just Trevor and the piano and by the second verse, they were full blown power-pop tracks.  Considering the power of his voice and his lyrics, it’s extra amazing that Trevor Powers is only 22 years old!  There’s no doubt that he’s going to be a big star!  He played his entire debut album “The Year of Hibernation” for the adoring crowd,  though in a different running order.

One of the most endearing moments of the night was when Trevor told the crowd how as a native of Idaho, he’d always dreamed of coming to New York.  With his career starting to take off, he’s been able to not only visit, but play multiple sold out shows on several trips to New York in 2011!  It’s clear, he’ll be coming back to the Big Apple many more times in his budding career – but I suspect the next time he comes to town, he’ll be playing in a larger venue.

I talked with Trevor as he was setting up for the show and he was very cool.  You can see a photo from that moment after the jump.  Thanks again Trevor and I have every confidence that you’re going to be a huge star!
