When I met Reeve Carney, the star of Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark on Broadway, earlier this year, I was very impressed with how nice he was. I did some research to find out more about him and I discovered Reeve is in a band called Carney. I decided that I’d see the band the next chance I got. That night turned out to be Valentine’s Day, 2011. Carney played a sold out show at New York’s Bowery Ballroom. Due to overwhelming popularity, the band had to switch venues to accommodate ticket sales. Carney’s music reminds me a bit of Jeff Buckley as many songs feature epic screaming and climactic guitar solos. Oh and watching Reeve Carney with his chiseled body and super good looks added to a great night.
The band played songs off their debut album “Mr. Green Volume 1,” some new songs that were promised to be on album number 2. We were also treated to covers of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” (minus the operatic middle section) as well as The Beatles’ “I Want You (She’s So Heavy).” Many of the songs played during the 2 hour set were long and featured a jamming section before returning to the theme of the song. The band did their job as rock stars and I bought the CD at the merch table before the night was over. After the show, the band had an impromptu meet and greet with fans and once again, Reeve Carney was a totally cool guy.
It’s uncertain when the Los Angeles based band will be playing another show, as the band played during Spider-Man’s night off. I do know this, I’ll be back whenever it is. Thanks again to Carney for putting on such a great show and Happy Valentine’s Day!
