Vanity

Happy birthday to Denise Matthews, who went by the moniker Vanity in the 1980s.  Vanity was a Prince protege whose album Vanity 6 came out in 1982. It featured the still current club favorite “Nasty Girl.” I love this album so much and it still gets a lot of airplay with me.  Denise Matthews had a religious epiphany in the 1990s and has denounced her work in Vanity 6, so if you didn’t catch the Triple Threat tour of Vanity 6, The Time and Prince in 1982, your chances of hearing a live version of “Nasty Girl” are slim to none.  I know she’s not too crazy about this music anymore, but I say thanks for making my ears happy for over 20 years with a fantastic record. Happy birthday Denise.  Her memoir “Blame it On Vanity” can be obtained through her website.
